1990 Christmas Letter
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that another year has passed.
In 1990, we experienced a personal tradgedy. We rejoiced when Cheryl became pregnant in March. And we grieved when we lost the baby to miscarriage in June, nearly four months into the pregnancy. This happened less than three weeks after a successful ultrasound and hearing the baby's heartbeat. We will never truly be over this experience but we maintain hope for the future.
In May, we became members of the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, where Cheryl is the alto soloist.
We had a wonderful vacation in July -- two and one half weeks in Switzerland. We spent the first week in Grindlewald, staying in a Chalet with Cheryl's parents (we had a view of the Eiger from our balcony). Next, we stayed 3 days in St. Moritz in a lovely small hotel on a lake. We finished with 4 days in Zermatt. In Zermatt, we had a spectacular top floor room with private balcony and unobstructed view of the Matterhorn! Throughout our vacation, we had many days of spectacular hiking in the Alps.
Alan spent 17 days in Alaska on business in October. That was too long. Cheryl is lobbying for future business trips to be to Europe in the summer so that she can come too.
Alan continues enthusiastically working at TRW as a systems engineer/mathematician/software designer. He also does his bit for independence from foreign oil by commuting to work by bicycle most days. Cheryl continues on the voice faculty at Loyola Marymount University, in the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and as alto soloist at the church.
We wish you a very happy holiday season and the best in 1991.
Cheryl and Alan
